The Reading Room


Accessible by appointment only.

Prior to their visit, researchers must register by completing a registration form, and contact the reference archivist to organize their research.

All visitors must present valid identification (id-card, passport or driving license) to access the UN Archives reading room.

  • Secretariat staff, delegations to the United Nations, members of Permanent Missions and other internal users can consult the archives.
  • External researchers (professors, historians, lawyers, university students and the general public) have access to the archival collections for the purpose of their professional work or research studies.

We also aim to meet the special needs of clients visiting our research rooms. If you have a physical or hearing disability, are visually handicapped or have special language needs, please contact us before your visit and we will discuss how we can assist with any special requirements.

The UN Archives Reading Room is open Monday through Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The Reading Room has Wifi connection accessible.

Researchers are welcome to bring their laptop and camera.
