A popular photograph collection at the UN Archives
documents the work of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation
Administration (UNRRA). Established by agreement of 44 nations
on 9 November 1943, and continuing until 1946, UNRRA administered
or arranged for the relief of World War II victims through the
provision of basic necessities and services such as food, fuel,
medical care, and vocational training.
The collection consists of 3,530 black and white photographs
covering UNRRA activities in 28 countries across six continents.
The UNRRA photographers, through the eyes of their subjects,
capture both the devastation of war and the hope of reconstruction.
