A fully-assembled, 90-ton "MacArthur" type railroad locomotive is swung to the tracks at Shanghai's Woosung docks to be used in UNRRA's Rehabilitation of China's railroad. A total of 250 locomotives 3450 units of rolling stock and thousands of steel rails and wooden ties are also being shipped to china by UNRRA. To assist in the difficult unloading operations, U.S. Navy patrol craft diverted harbor traffic to avoid dangerous swaying which would have been caused by the heavy backwash of the vessels passing close to the unloading ship.(Photo by Wipperman) |
