The institutional archives of the United Nations has been in existence since the United Nations Preparatory Commission of 1945 met in London and since 1950 has been based in New York.

Spanning more than 100 years the collections main strength is material created by UN Secretariat departments, missions, tribunals and emergency forces since the founding of UN in 1946. Among the holdings are the records of the UN Secretaries-General and records of significant bodies, such as the World War II United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and the United Nations War Crimes Commission.

Much of the approximately 100,000 linear feet of primarily textual records is available for research. See UN Archives Reference Services
