race for chow call. Most of these children were found
on the streets and brought to the orphanage by UNRRA
workers. They were starved and near death before coming

Hunanese farm families wait in the village court-yard
at Kung ping for the emergency soft rice food provided
by UNRRA. The village was completely destroyed by
Jap forces. The farmers are without seed, work animals,
hand tools and strength to cultivate their fields.

one of the fifty trainees who will graduate today
from the first six-week courses in food preservation
course in food preservation conducted by UNRRA's recently
instituted canning school on Kiangwan road. Each graduating
student will take back to his home district the knowledge
and equipment necessary for the setting up of community
food preservation centers where farmers of his region

Shanghai,China - March 1946. A fully-assembled, 90-ton
"MacArthur" type railroad locomotive is swung to the
tracks at Shanghai's Woosung docks to be used in UNRRA's
Rehabilitation of China's railroad. A total of 250
locomotives 3450 units of rolling stock and thousands
of steel rails and wooden ties are also being shipped
to china by UNRRA. To assist in the difficult unloading
operations, U.S. Navy patrol craft diverted harbor
traffic to avoid dangerous swaying which would have
been caused by the heavy backwash of the vessels passing
