Conduct Research
The United Nations Archives and Records Management Section acquires, preserves, and provides access to the Organization’s historical records. Archives serve as institutional memory, provide evidence of the past, and show the world all the work that the UN has done since it was created in 1945. Making archives available promotes accountability and ensures the Organization's actions and decisions are transparent. Knowledge of the past creates a better future!
The United Nations is committed to making as many of its archives available for consultation as possible. To encourage people around the world to utilize them, we offer several online resources and services:
- Digital access to the United Nations archives through our Search Engine
- A list of all our collections and their Finding Aids
- Information related to archives of other International Organizations and External Resources
- Information on citation, reproduction and copyright
- Several Online Exhibits showcasing different archives
- Various Research Guides on specific topic
- Support to reserve a seat in our Public Research Facility / Reading Room
- Advice on research projects
- Assistance with access and declassification requests for certain records
